How can I start a sneaker boutique or clothing store?
I am a 17 year old senior
I plan to attend college next year
should i wait?
what should be the first step to starting a boutique?
I am into the latest urban trends.
i wear brands like urbanoutfitters,american apparel, nike, supra, creative recreation, etc. just your normal teenager
My suggestion would be to work at one of your favorite stores. You will get to know the business and the customers first hand. Working your way up and managing one of those stores will set you up for success for your own store. Retail is challenging and unless you have the luxury of tons of money you will need to make sure it is what you really love doing day in day out.
Knowing the trends is only a fraction of what it takes to open and run a store. You will need experience, lots of money and the right location.
You can also rent a kiosk/cart in a mall to test out your concept before signing a brick and mortar lease. Setting up an online store is something you can do during college which can help you get started.
