I can only drink light red wine, wines like cabernet savignon make me sick to my stomach.

Is pinot noir light like a merlot, or heavy like a cab?

Pinot noir is very different than both merlot and cab. It would be described as a lighter, more delicate red wine that pairs with many kinds of food (I have heard it referred to as the Universal Wine Type since it can pair with nearly everything). However, a good one should be a fairly complex wine. It may be aged on oak or in stainless - however if aged on oak, it is typically done for much less time than merlot or cab so it should be less "oaky" than the Bordeaux varieties (cab and merlot).

A good pinot is absolutely my favorite wine varietal. However a bad one is about as bad as bad wine gets. It is one of the more challenging varietals for winemakers to work with and make an exceptional wine.
